Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Olivea Restaurant (“Olivea”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information through oliveanj.com and when you contact us. We are the business responsible for your information (the “controller”). Olivea Restaurant, 37 S Broad St, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 · (201) 857-0437 · tellimustafa190323@gmail.com.

We wrote this policy to meet the New Jersey Data Privacy Act (NJDPA), the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws. We give everyone the rights described below, wherever they live.

Information we collect

  • Reservation requests: your name, phone number, email address, the date, time and party size you ask for, the occasion, any notes you add (such as allergies or seating wishes) and the date and time you agreed to this policy.
  • Contact Us messages: your name, email address, phone number (optional), your message and the date and time you agreed to this policy.
  • OpenTable bookings: if you book through the OpenTable widget on our website, you book with OpenTable. OpenTable shares your booking details (such as your name, contact details, party size and any notes) with us so we can welcome you.
  • Calls: what you tell us when you call.
  • Technical information: our hosting and security providers keep short-term server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, date and time) to keep the site secure and working.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see “Cookies” below.

We don’t buy information about you from other companies, and we don’t use analytics or advertising trackers.

Sensitive information (allergies and dietary needs)

Allergy or dietary notes can reveal health information, which New Jersey law and the GDPR treat as sensitive. We use them only to prepare for your visit, and only with your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the reservation form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us. Please don’t include sensitive details we don’t need.

How we use your information, and our legal reasons

  • To handle your reservation request and contact you about it. Legal basis: your request and your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and (b)).
  • To prepare for allergies or dietary needs: your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a); NJDPA consent for sensitive data).
  • To answer Contact Us messages and calls: your request and your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and (b)).
  • To honor OpenTable bookings: to provide the table you booked (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • To keep the website secure and working: our legitimate interest in a safe website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • To meet legal obligations: such as keeping records or answering lawful requests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)).

We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising, or use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We don’t send marketing emails.

Who we share it with

  • Our staff who handle reservations and messages.
  • OpenTable, when you choose to book through it. OpenTable is responsible for the information you give it under OpenTable’s privacy policy.
  • Service providers who run the website for us under contract and may use the information only to provide their service: our web host (GoDaddy), its security and content-delivery network (Cloudflare), and our email delivery provider.
  • Authorities, if the law requires it, or to protect our guests, staff or rights.
  • A new owner of the restaurant, if the business is sold, under this policy.

Cookies

When you first visit, a banner lets you Accept all, Reject all or Customize. Nothing optional loads until you choose. You can change your choice anytime with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Essential (always on):

  • olv_consent: remembers your cookie choice and the date you made it. First-party, 12 months.
  • __cf_bm: set by Cloudflare to tell people from bots and protect the site. 30 minutes.
  • wordpress_*, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_test_cookie: only for our staff when they log in to manage the site. Session or up to 14 days.
  • Browser session storage (olvTab, olvEmbeds): remembers the menu tab you’re on and which maps or posts you chose to show. Deleted when you close the tab.

Third-party content (only if you allow it): the OpenTable booking widget and Google map on our Contact page, and Instagram posts. When they load, OpenTable, Google or Instagram (Meta) receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. You can also load a single item with its “Show” button without allowing everything, or book directly on opentable.com.

Analytics and advertising: none. Our host adds visitor-tracking scripts to websites by default; we remove them. Our fonts are served from our own site, so viewing a page does not contact Google Fonts.

Global Privacy Control and opt-out signals

We honor universal opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a request to opt out of the sale of personal data and targeted advertising, as the NJDPA requires. Since we don’t do either, you don’t need to take any action, but we’ll treat the signal as your choice.

How long we keep it

  • Reservation details: 12 months after the date of your visit. After that we erase your name, phone, email and notes automatically and keep only the date, time and party size, which no longer identify you.
  • Messages: as long as needed to answer you, and no longer than 12 months.
  • Server logs: kept by our hosting providers for a short time, usually no more than 30 days.
  • Your cookie choice: 12 months, then we ask again.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Confirm whether we process your personal information, and access it.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information.
  • Get a copy in a portable format.
  • Opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising and significant profiling. We don’t do any of these.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, including for sensitive information. This doesn’t affect what we did before.
  • If you’re in the EU or UK: object to or restrict our use of your information, and complain to your data protection authority.

How to ask: email tellimustafa190323@gmail.com or call (201) 857-0437. We’ll confirm your identity (usually by matching the email or phone number you gave us) and reply within 45 days. If we need more time, up to 45 more days where the law allows, we’ll tell you why. Requests are free, up to twice a year. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. We won’t treat you differently for using your rights.

Appeals: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying with “Privacy appeal” in the subject line. We’ll answer within 45 days and explain our decision. If you’re still not satisfied, you can contact the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs at njconsumeraffairs.gov.

Children

Our website isn’t meant for children. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. We don’t sell, or use for targeted advertising, the information of anyone under 18. A parent or guardian can contact us to have a child’s information deleted.

Security and data breaches

The site uses an encrypted (https) connection. Reservation details can be seen only by logged-in staff, and staff accounts see only what they need. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you and the authorities as required by the New Jersey Identity Theft Prevention Act and other applicable laws.

Where your information is kept

We and our providers store information in the United States. If you visit from outside the US, your information is transferred to the US, where privacy laws may differ. We rely on our providers’ standard contractual protections for these transfers.

Other websites

Links to Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps and other sites are covered by those companies’ own privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll show a notice on the site.
